The Cottage – early last century it was once the local school and has been upgraded in a style sympathetic to the original, and is well situated.
Accommodation is for up to 6 people, in three bedrooms (queen, double and twin).
You will find a well-appointed kitchen, Coffee plunger. spacious eating area, cosy lounge, air-conditioning, and north facing outdoor patio with BBQ and views over the water.
Linen included. BYO BEACH TOWELS. Cot and High chair - take own cot linen and towel.
Remember, you will need to take your own own food, toiletries and beverages.
There is undercover parking for 2 cars (carports x2).
And, we are pet friendly for small to medium dogs (on request). Please note whilst dogs are allowed inside they are not to go on any of the furniture, beds etc There is a pet fee of $50 per dog (non refundable).
Position:
The cottage has an ideal central location, being situated on the foreshore with a view of the sea and moored boats. It is just 100 metres from the wharf and Deck Cafe, and 200 metres from the boat ramp. The Oyster Farm Shop is next door.
There are tennis courts are across the road, beyond which is a children’s playground.
We are a good jumping off spot for exploring the rest of the island, and a serene place to appreciate on your return.
American River:
A.River is actually a sea inlet (not a river) and easily the best location on the island for marine activities. It has been renowned over the years for its fishing, especially for King George Whiting.
The waters are very protected, and ideal for boating and kayaking - all year round.
It is a small town with a relaxed ambience.
There is an abundance of birdlife, both marine and terrestrial. It’s not uncommon to see dolphins mooching around, or a seal or two hauled up by the wharf.
There are a couple of peaceful foreshore walking trails, or you could join the locals fishing from the wharf/jetty..

We really enjoyed our 5 days at the Schoolhouse Cottage. Its location is lovely, looking out over the water with access to a tennis court/basketball court just across the road. We enjoyed our coffee
We were pleased that despite being an old cottage the place was clean, tidy, and all facilities such as the fridge were modern and in excellent working order. The host provided us tennis rackets so we could make use of the courts just across the road. It is a very small and peaceful town, coffee shop served quality coffee, and post office had an assortment of general goods. Not the best swimming beach, but the snorkelling was fun. The cottage is well equipped with both indoor and outdoor seating options. American River is a wonderful place for a quiet relaxing break but within easy access to all that KI offers. Peter September 2018
